Step back in time for an evening of rhythm, history, and high-spirited fun. The Flint Hill Dance Troupe invites you to a lively performance celebrating the “country” dance traditions that defined the 19th-century social life. From the elegant patterns of the parlor, to the energetic stomping of the barn dance, this event offers a window into the past—and a chance to be part of the action! Social dance was the heartbeat of the 19th century—a way for neighbors to connect and communities to celebrate. We’re thrilled to bring that same energy to our demonstration performance, which is divided into two parts designed to get your heart racing and your feet moving:

The Demonstration: Watch as our troupe performs intricate reels, jigs, and longways sets. Dressed in period-accurate attire, we’ll showcase the footwork and dances of the 1800s.

Audience Participation: Don’t just watch-join the line! Our caller will lead guests through simple, traditional dances. No experience (or partner) is necessary; if you can walk and tell your left from your right, you can dance a 19th-century reel.

The Flint Hill Dance Troupe’s mission is to accurately demonstrate 19th century dancing, focusing on the midcentury period. Their troupe of dedicated volunteers showcase dances in a professional manner highlighting rural or “country” style. When performing in period clothing, the attire is representative of the 1850-1860s, which correlates with the time period in which most of our dances were most popular.

This event is co-hosted by the Antoinette Brown Blackwell Society and the Henrietta Public Library.
