On May 24, 2025, the Antoinette Brown Blackwell Society marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Antoinette, the first ordained woman minister in the US, and a pioneer of the women’s rights movement. Nettie’s life spanned many of the divisive and turbulent times in our country. Her faith, hope, passion, and vision inspires many of us today to
continue to fight for justice.
To celebrate and continue her legacy, a luncheon was held at the Wildwood Golf Club in Rush, NY. During the program, Adrienne Pettinelli, Chair of the Scholarship Committee, presented two $2,000 scholarships to Saraby Satheeshkumar and Haylie Smith. The 2025 Woman of the Year award was presented to Mai Abdullah by Dr. Barbara Mullen, Superintendent of RHCSD. Pasts recipients of the Woman of the Year award and past Scholarship winners were also recognized.
The Guest Speaker was Dr. Fredlund, a professor at the University of Memphis. Dr. Fredlund is in the process of writing an historical fiction on Netti. She read excepts from her book and we are all excited to see it published soon.
All those who attended the luncheon reported that they had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
The Antoinette Brown Blackwell Society wishes to thank everyone for their support of our mission and for making the luncheon a great success.
